The Broadway Walk of Stars Rings The NASDAQ Stock Market Opening Bell

10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 With countdown music resonating, The Broadway Walk of Stars President and Founder Arlene Dahl pushed the button that rang the bell, opening the NASDAQ Stock Market on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009. The event was broadcast on multiple news channels as well as seen on the impressive NASDAQ Tower in Times Square.
 
The legendary actress spoke beautifully as she extolled the long-anticipated project that would see the legends of theater, motion pictures, television, music and dance honored with specially designed stars embedded into the sidewalks of Broadway and Times Square.
 
"I share this dream with a circle of committed supporters who've worked hard to reach this moment," Ms. Dahl said. A special thank you was also given to Abraham (Barry) Cohen, Entrepreneur, for arranging the Foundation's event with NASDAQ.
 
David Wicks, Vice President of the NASDAQ MarketSite, opened the ceremony with a gracious introduction that noted how well the presence of the Foundation and NASDAQ in Times Square complement each other, and highlighted the Foundation's plan to award scholarships to talented New York City schoolchildren who will become the stars and legends of the future.
 
On the podium with Ms. Dahl were Robert Osborne, Board Member of The Broadway Walk of Stars Foundation and Host of Turner Classic Movies, author and columnist, and Marc A. Rosen, Vice President of the Foundation and President of Marc A. Rosen Associates. Each of them spoke briefly about the importance of this long-overdue project and the benefits to New York City.


Ms. Dahl thanked NASDAQ for helping the Foundation move to the next level. "Through our website, we're able to connect electronically to our fans around the world, who now have an easy way to contribute tax-free donations to make sure their favorite stars and legends are honored."
