A Tribute to Marty Richards

On November 26, 2012, fellow Board member Martin (”Marty”) Richards passed away. His generosity, freedom of spirit, incredible talent and contribution to the arts will be deeply missed. Marty was a founding board member whose friendship, guidance and support helped generate countless opportunities for the Broadway Walk of Stars Foundation.

His accomplishments, most notably for receiving a Best Picture Oscar for the lm “Chicago”, included many other theatrical productions. Marty produced theatrical events such as: “On the Twentieth Century,” Betty Comden, Adolph Green and Cy Coleman’s 1978 musical, which starred Kevin Kline, Imogene Coca, Madeline Kahn, Judy Kaye and John Cullum won ve Tonys; “Sweeney Todd,” Stephen Sondheim’s 1979 masterpiece, which won eight Tonys, including best musical; “La Cage aux Folles,” Harvey Fierstein and Jerry Herman’s musical farce which won six Tonys; “Grand Hotel,” a 1989 musical directed by Tommy Tune won ve Tonys; and “The Will Rogers Follies,” which won for best musical and best score. What an amazing career and what a wonderful friend. May he rest in peace.
